Balance In Our Christian Walk

balance_2

So many people have been stating about the importance of balance.  This is so true for all of us.  We need to take the time for Jesus in praise/worship, study, home/family, work, etc.

overwhelmed1texting_and_drivinglook_a_squirrel

If we concentrate too much on one thing, we can soon become overwhelmed and fall. This would be much like someone driving a car but concentrating on a text message instead of the road ahead.  Too much concentration on what is happening on the internet, radio and television, can cause much stress and grief.

victory_in_jesus

Likewise, not enough exposure to the truth, can cause us to become unprepared when things get bad.  We need to daily praise the Lord, ask for forgiveness, read the word and obey the calling the Lord has placed on our lives.

warning_danger_Will_Robinson

So many people are staying too focused on warning and danger!  After awhile, it will be much like the “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” and nobody will be listening any longer. Balance is the key!

Our calling can be in numerous areas and can include many gifts from the Holy Spirit.

Some of those gifts are:  The Word of Knowledge, The Word of Wisdom, The Gift of Prophecy, The Gift of Faith, The Gifts of Healing, The Working of Miracles, The Discernment of Spirits, The Gift of Tongues, The Interpretation of Tongues

Some of the fruits of the spirit are: Love, Joy, Peace, Long-suffering, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness & Self-Control.

1 Corinthians 12

Diversity of Spiritual Gifts
12 Now concerning what comes from the Spirit: brothers, I do not want you to be unaware. 2 You know that when you were pagans, you used to be led off to the idols that could not speak. 3 Therefore I am informing you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are different activities, but the same God activates each gift in each person. 7 A demonstration of the Spirit is given to each person to produce what is beneficial:

8 to one is given a message of wisdom through the Spirit, to another, a message of knowledge by the same Spirit, 9 to another, faith by the same Spirit, to another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another, the performing of miracles, to another, prophecy, to another, distinguishing between spirits, to another, different kinds of languages, to another, interpretation of languages.
11 But one and the same Spirit is active in all these, distributing to each person as He wills.

Unity Yet Diversity in the Body
12 For as the body is one and has many parts, and all the parts of that body, though many, are one body—so also is Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. 14 So the body is not one part but many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I’m not a hand, I don’t belong to the body,” in spite of this it still belongs to the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I’m not an eye, I don’t belong to the body,” in spite of this it still belongs to the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But now God has placed each one of the parts in one body just as He wanted. 19 And if they were all the same part, where would the body be? 20 Now there are many parts, yet one body.  21 So the eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” Or again, the head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22 But even more, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are necessary. 23 And those parts of the body that we think to be less honorable, we clothe these with greater honor, and our unpresentable parts have a better presentation. 24 But our presentable parts have no need of clothing. Instead, God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the less honorable, 25 so that there would be no division in the body, but that the members would have the same concern for each other. 26 So if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and individual members of it. 28 And God has placed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, next miracles,
then gifts of healing, helping, managing, various kinds of languages.
29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all do miracles?
30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in other languages?
Do all interpret? 31 But desire the greater gifts. And I will show you an even better way.

I_can't_hear_you3keep_calm_jesus_loves_you

Balance is the key.  We don’t want to bury our heads in the sand, but we sure don’t want to get into a constant state of panic by concentration on what everyone else is saying either!

Having Too Much Could Cause One To Turn Away From The Lord

Proverbs 30:8-9

Keep falsehood and deceitful words far from me.
Give me neither poverty nor wealth; feed me with the food I need.
Otherwise, I might have too much and deny You, saying, “Who is the Lord?”
or I might have nothing and steal, profaning the name of my God.

Decently & In Order

1 Corinthians 14:39-40

Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in other languages. 40 But everything must be done decently and in order.

Hearing & Doing The Word

James 1:19-27

19 My dearly loved brothers, understand this: Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, 20 for man’s anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness. 21 Therefore, ridding yourselves of all moral filth and evil, humbly receive the implanted word, which is able to save you.22 But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but one who does good works—this person will be blessed in what he does. 26 If anyone thinks he is religious without controlling his tongue, then his religion is useless and he deceives himself. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

So many play now, filling their time with empty pastimes that do not involve Me. I have become an afterthought to you.

Because you do not need Me. Shall I cause you to need Me so that you will pursue Me again, as at the first?

I desire your love and attention. I desire you would long for our time together as I do.

Pursue Me. I am all you need.

Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

Proverbs 8:17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

  2. I received this clip from a friend, and was amazed at the powerful message Jim sent in this…. He played Jesus in “The Passion of the Christ” – The message is fascinating and full of truths from a Hollywood actor. His interaction with Mel Gibson is quite amazing story in itself. Well worth the 37 min – it will draw you in.

“My abundant love carries to all those who choose to embrace My merciful love. Goodness knows no limit for My redeemed. Daily you walk among the dead and dying. Be aware of your limitations and learn to discern the light from the dark. What a mighty God you serve. You have no idea the depth, width, height of My glory. You have yet to tap into the fullness of the Great One; JEHOVAH Jirah your Provider.

As you travel life’s highways, remember Me. Remember My Word – My ways. You are a child of the King, your light comes from My work in your life. Each day will bring more darkness as the world attempts to crowd out My power. Do not be shaken. Take a firm hold of the horns of My altar. Lean into Me and be the clay in the Potters hand to shape into a vessel fit for His kingdom.”

“You turn things around! Shall the potter be considered as equal with the clay, That what is made would say to its maker, “He did not make me”; Or what is formed say to him who formed it, “He has no understanding”? Isaiah 29:16

  4. THE BIBLE
Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:20-21

Daniel, a Chinese brother from Singapore, sat in the chair still shaking his head in unbelief. He had just returned from his first extensive visit to the People’s Republic of China. Now in the freedom of his home city, he was trying to assimilate and communicate all the impressions and messages he had received.

“How would you summarize what you learned on your visit, Daniel?” I asked him. He continued to shake his head and smile. Finally he began to speak.

“Probably by my visit to one particular house church,” he slowly replied. “It numbers several hundred believers who have had a lot of persecution over the past years. I asked them how they had been victorious and even grown in numbers during such terrible experiences. They quickly replied, telling me three things,” he continued. “First, obedience to the Word of God; second, communication with God, that is, prayer. And third, love for the brothers and sisters.”

This group memorized one chapter of the Bible every week. They began doing this because of a lack of Bibles, but continued doing so after they realized the blessing it brought to their lives.

The Bible is God’s written revelation of Himself and His desire for a relationship with people. It is more than just a revelation of God’s character. It is also a revelation of His intricate plan for the world. We could never have understood our great God if He had not chosen to reveal Himself.

His greatest revelation of Himself was when He came to live among us in a human body and was known as Jesus Christ. But even our knowledge of that revelation depends upon His written Word, the Bible.

Satan has conducted a massive propaganda campaign in the last century in an attempt to discredit the Bible. He would love to see Christians lose faith in the Word of God. In spite of his efforts, however, no one has ever been able to disprove its reliability. It remains the only absolute truth known to humankind.

The Bible is our God-given basis for faith, doctrine and practice. Many times Christians have knowingly departed from its teachings and suffered because of doing so. Many times when Christians depart from the Word, it is because they do not know or understand it.

The church can only be true to the revealed Word of God when its people know what it teaches. Study of God’s Word is an essential part of the Christian life. When Christians doubt, ignore or fail to understand the teachings of scripture and depart from its principles, they lose their spiritual power.

RESPONSE: Today I will recommit to the daily study and application of God’s Word, the Bible.

PRAYER: Pray for believers in many parts of the world who still yearn for a copy of the Bible.

  5. Excellent post James. I wonder often what churches would have been like, had they taught about the gifts more……..(meaning main stream doesn’t “go there”) and how balance would have kept many from confusion and offense.

I can get out of balance easily in seemingly small areas that all add up if I don’t keep a watch on it. It’s so sneaky!!!!!

  6. Heavenly Father,
We ask for clarity, wisdom in seeking the truth. May we not believe everything people are telling us, unless it is confirmed by you via the Holy Spirit. May we also not be caught up in trying to cause something to happen and then telling everyone that the Holy Spirit directed us. May we get out of the way and truly hear what you are saying. May anyone that tries to deceive us with their own thoughts and many of them don’t even know they are doing this… May they be brought back to you in humility. May we also never verbally or with our own minds, bring judgment on fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. We are all human and are weak. Without your guidance we all will fail. We thank you in all things, in Jesus name… Amen & Amen.

  7. Amen and amen. Thank you James. I got a bit off the wall from an article earlier this week and the Lord has used it to really help me see some personal areas to deal with but like all things, Holy Spirit has got to confirm or all else is not worth it. I get so fed up with my flesh, then realize, it’s got to be Him ……….not me 🙂

  8. I have to say that if im guilty of pursuing something its knowledge.

But i also noticed at times of intense study sometimes my attention wanes to more less demanding pursuits. Most likely a defense mechanism built in by the Lord so that one does not pursue something too deep.

Great topic and in 1 john i would remember it says the Holy Spirit teaches you all you need to know.

    MEMORIZING GOD’S WORD
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

When China’s best-known pastor, Wang Ming-dao, was finally released from prison, he stated, “In these past twenty years, I have not had a copy of the Bible. Happily between the ages of twenty-one to twenty-four, I spent my time at home doing the housework and studying the scriptures. I memorized many passages. These passages in my heart came out one by one and strengthened me. Had it not been for those words of God, then not only I, but many others, would also have been defeated.”

Pastor Lamb in southern China was in prison for many years at that same time. “I understood then why I had memorized so much of God’s Word while in Bible school,” he says. “I kept my sanity only by repeating Bible verses over and over.”

The best way the church can prepare for trials and persecution is by seriously studying and learning the Word of God. Christians need an overview of the whole Bible. Understanding God’s outline for mankind in the Bible aids in memorization as well.

What is the right attitude to bring to Bible study? Some read and study the Bible with the intent to get something from it to teach to others. But first, we should approach the Bible with the desire to see the goodness and loving-kindness of God and understand how “wide and long and high and deep” is His love for us (Ephesians 3:17-19). Let His love show you His supply for your own need and then you are better able to meet the needs of others.

Second, approach the Bible with humility. Study the Bible to discover what God has said. Bible study is meant not merely to inform but to transform.

In restricted countries where Bibles are in short supply, pastors are often in a quandary as to which of the many spiritually needy he should share these precious books with. Progress in Bible memorization is one method they can use for determining who will receive the available Bibles. One house church group in Vietnam decided to give them to the believers who were most determined to use them. The criterion used was memory work. So Bibles were shared only with those who recited flawlessly Psalm 119—all 176 verses!

Open Doors is committed to provide God’s Word to those for whom it is not available. “It is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes….” (Romans 1:16)

RESPONSE: Today I will memorize a new verse from God’s Word, the Bible.

PRAYER: Pray for the Christians in restricted countries where there is a shortage of God’s Word.

    1. I was just thinking this morning…how Jesus walked this earth with love for all. He carried with Him nothing but LOVE for all He came in contact with, even His enemies. He taught and loved freely and asked for nothing in return. It shouldn’t be so hard for us to do the same, to follow the Lords Commandments so we may teach and share His love freely as well. As we disciple we must remember where we came from, how we got to this place of belief, this ultimate relationship with our Lord. As we read the word of God it is essential to learn it, live it and then store it to be used according to His will.

My prayer is… that I ALWAYS keep where I came from, front and center, that I never forget that I am a sinner, and that I must repent daily so I can love those around me, as God loves me…Amen

I’m reading Psalms 119-176 as listed in this last post from James…vs. 71-77 says a lot in six short verses.

      Psalm 119:71-77 (KJV)
It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.
The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.
Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word.
I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.
Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.
Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.

      Blessings to all,
      Vicki

  10. 🙂 When hard times hit, the bouncing off the wall may hit occasionally also BUT to look back at the times He has done the miraculous………it gets easier at times to rejoice in all things…..notice I said at times…….LOL praying to rejoice asap vs later. The Word: memorizing where (numerical) the passages are in the books is a challenge. Maybe a time to make a list of scripture to print out, cut in little pieces and see how long it takes to find them………or better yet, keep praying He heals my memory. Thank you Jesus!

    1. I can’t memorize scripture myself. That goes for most things like names of people and other stuff. I do recall seeing something in the Bible, but I often have to do an online search to find it. This brings about great Bible Study, and I understand you can do this with a concordance as well? I don’t own one, but it sounds like something good to have for when the internet is no longer available.

      1. I have trouble too James…I always have. I also always wondered how I was able too commit to memory as a child, Psalms 23…all of it and John 3:16. I understand now that those two were all I needed to get me through until I came too the Lord with a new understanding of His love for me/us. When I submitted, when I gave my all to Him, He in return gave me new eyes to see and new ears too hear. I know have a better understanding of His word and His love. As for memorizing, I feel the Lord wants me in His word and in Prayer. When the time comes He will bring forth what He wants me to repeat and share/teach to further His Kingdom.

Sonshine, I have been instructed to print out certain scripture to be handed out when the Lord sees fit.

        Blessings,
        Vicki

  11. In My case memorizing is quite easy. But My wife says My memory is the worst? Hmm maybe its whats called selective memory or the subconscious deletes input of nonpersonal commands.

The mind works a little like a computer, minds without the Holy Spirit are like computers without internet access.

But My wife still says My memory is bad 🤓

  12. Joy
    Jun 06, 2016 10:26 am | Glynda Linkous

My people, find your joy in Me. Find your joy in your worship of Me. Nothing brings joy to My heart more than when My people worship Me with abandon.

Especially precious to Me is your private worship, your time with just Me. The times when you lay all your worldly cares aside and just come to Me. When you long for Me as much as I do for you. I created you to fellowship with Me, to worship Me, to know My love, but how can you know Me when you do not approach My Throne?

Do you not know there is nothing I will deny My righteous ones who spend time with Me in this way, who show Me the great love they feel for Me, who worship Me for who I am?

I desire to speak to you, to heal what is wrong in your lives, but I do not pour out My blessings on those who make no time for Me. Come to Me, and show Me your love.

Psalm 84:11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

Nehemiah 8:10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

  13. Printing out scripture is a wonderful idea Vicki! For many years when in bondage to agoraphobia and panic disorder, I had every scripture in the NT and some from the old literally glued to mirrors, cabinets and walls with plain ol Elmers Glue LOL. Still……….don’t remember exact numerical location but know which book they are in.
The Lord finally sent in some awesome warriors to walk me out of the root of the bondage. It still pops up occasionally but the difference is night and day………or rather, darkness vs Light. I could not go to a store, a public gathering or anything else like it even after being born again unless I had worship music on and entered in. Church was so easy, I couldn’t wait to get there every time the doors were open.
The Bible on tape, CD (been through a good few sets) has been on in the evening since 91. One would think………..I would know where the verse and chapter but nope. Not in general conversing,,,,, but guess what!?!?!?!?! Holy Spirit does bring it to mind when needed.! He’s done it and takes the fear of not remembering away when backed into a corner sharing Jesus with someone.

Why no one fought for rights for our children with CC in schools……….it’s the slumber we are in that God has allowed for this time.

    THE WRITTEN WORD OF GOD
Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 1 Peter 1:22-23

The Bible has always been an important resource to those who have not had access to it… especially those in prison. Christian singer, Helen Berhane shares how she smuggled a Bible into a shipping container prison in Eritrea and later was moved to another container which already held eighteen Christian women who had refused to give up their faith. She writes in her book, Song of the Nightingale, how the Word of God impacted her and the other women:

We were very overcrowded, but I was happy to join a Christian group again. Since I was the longest serving prisoner, I took charge. I wanted to help them as much as I could, because I knew they would be comforted by the thought that someone cared for them. I would fold the older ladies’ blankets when they went out to the toilet in the morning, and I would stay behind to clean the container [of human waste].

Many of them were worried about their husbands and children, so I tried to keep them busy and establish a routine. I would start by preparing breakfast; at this point we got four bread rolls each, two in the morning and two in the evening, with weak lentil soup, and a cup of tea.

Then I would lead a Bible meditation and then I would sing. A month after I was first imprisoned I had managed to smuggle a Bible past the guards. I can’t tell you exactly how I did it, as people still use this method and it is important that the authorities don’t find out how it’s done, but I can say it was a whole Bible split into five smaller sections. This made it easier for me to hide it. Previously I had just read it alone, but now we did group readings every day. I also sang new songs to the group that I had written in prison.[1]

RESPONSE: Today I will cherish my Bible and make sure that in my freedom I internalize it as much as those in prison for the faith.

PRAYER: Pray that all Christian prisoners will somehow gain access to a Bible or the message of the Bible today for encouragement and hope.

It is so difficult for My children to be patient when I am working behind the scenes for them. My precious ones, do you not know I do My best work where no one sees? That I am preparing a delightful resolution to your situation for you? That I can bring you good out of this, as no one else can?

Resist the temptation to work on a problem you have given over to Me, for your interference stops what I am doing and delays your answer from Me. The enemy often tempts My people to take back what they have cast on Me, and the results will not be My best for you.

If you trust Me, let it go. I am well able to produce the answers you need.

    INTERNALIZE GOD’S WORD
Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Joshua 1:8

A co-worker who was teaching Christian leaders in Vietnam shares this experience:

I immediately realized that not one of these pastors owned a Bible and that they were waiting to hear from scripture. As I started sharing, one pastor raised his hand. “Excuse me brother, is that the Bible or is that you?”

“This is scripture,” I answered and immediately the leaders took out a notebook and eagerly started writing every word down. I then understood that this was the only way that they could collect scripture verses. I wanted to cry.

As I continued the teaching, the same question came once again. “Excuse me brother, is that the Bible or is that you?”

“This time it’s me,” I answered and suddenly everybody put their “Bibles” down and took out a different notebook and once again wrote down every word I said. Then came lunch break and the leading pastor stood up. “We will now have a time to test our Bible knowledge,” he announced.

I wondered how my Bible knowledge, with more than ten Bibles at my disposal, would measure up with these leaders who do not have their own copies. The leader asked the first question. “What does it say in Obadiah 2:4?”

I shrank in my chair. Please don’t look at me, I thought. I know there is a book of Obadiah but I must confess it has been some time since I read it. The pastors started laughing and then one raised his hand.

“Obadiah only has one chapter, brother!” I felt so ashamed. How is it possible I did not know this and these believers without their own Bibles knew.

Then came the second question. “What does the Bible teach in Nahum 1:7?

An elderly pastor in the front row raised his hand like an eager school child. He then started quoting the scripture: “The Lord is good, a strength in the day of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”

“Well done brother,” said the leader. “You may sit down now.” But the elderly pastor was not finished yet. “Please,” he asked, “may I continue?” After a nod, he quoted the whole book of Nahum faultlessly.

I was also later introduced to another believer who came to know the Lord only during recent years. His passion for the Word of God is displayed in the fact that he has already memorized seventy-eight chapters of the Bible.

RESPONSE: Today, I will begin a program to internalize God’s Word and hide it in my heart.

PRAYER: Lord, give me a passion for Your Word like believers in Vietnam.

As I go about renewing areas of your life you thought were gone forever, you will stand in awe of My mighty power. There is truly nothing I cannot accomplish, nothing I cannot create or recreate, and nothing good I deny those who love Me and truly serve Me with their whole hearts.

Watch as I work out perplexing situations for you and turn them to your benefit, My children, and know that your Father in Heaven is a strong and mighty ruler, a rich and able Father and you are safe in My hands. Cast your care on Me and let go of the struggle, for I am able.

    1 Peter 5:6-8
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Luke 1:37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.

Psalm 84:11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

2 Chronicles 20:15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
