Blasphemy Against The Holy Spirit

Here in Mathew 12, we find an example of what it means to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Pharisees claimed that Jesus was casting out demons by Satan’s authority.

We must be careful that we never proclaim someone who is filled with the Holy Spirit is being led by Satan or his minion.   We do need to have discernment, as the Jezebel spirit can hang around someone who is not fully listening to the Holy Spirit. This does not mean they are possessed, it simply means that they need deliverance. Nobody who is filled with the Holy Spirit can be possessed by demons, but those things can hang around if we are in need of deliverance.

We also need discernment to see the difference between the Holy Spirit and Satan’s version of a false Holy Spirit.

Power_Of_Prayer

Ask the Lord to reveal to you anything that is not pleasing to him.  We may need to be delivered from things that have happened in our past.   Unforgiveness and continuing in sin that we have repented from are just a few examples.  The Holy Spirit may have commanded us to do something in faith and if we ignore that, we are in disobedience which is a sin.  When we repent and are saved, that does not cover future sin!  If we fall, we ask for forgiveness then pick ourselves up and continue in our walk with the help of the Holy Spirit.

There is no forgiveness for blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and it will guarantee you of being tossed into the lake of fire.

Matthew 12:22-32

Unpardonable_Sin

22 Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and unable to speak was brought to Him. He healed him, so that the man could both speak and see. 23 And all the crowds were astounded and said, “Perhaps this is the Son of David!”

24 When the Pharisees heard this, they said, “The man drives out demons only by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”

25 Knowing their thoughts, He told them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is headed for destruction, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, who is it your sons drive them out by? For this reason they will be your judges. 28 If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you. 29 How can someone enter a strong man’s house and steal his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house. 30 Anyone who is not with Me is against Me, and anyone who does not gather with Me scatters.

31 Because of this, I tell you, people will be forgiven every sin and blasphemy, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. 32 Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the one to come.

  1. Good word today and people really need to hear this. When i have given God’s truth to others, i have been accused of being sent from the devil or being the devil himself. If someone does not like what is a posted word given by the Lord, then they are really being convicted in their spirit so they seem to lash out at that person. i say take it up with God yourself and don’t bash the messenger. They are only doing the will of the Father and being obedient.

  2. Thats a harsh accusement by the recipient. Id be very cautious to throw something like the word of God back at somebody with that accusation in a moments burst.

I guess thats why the bible admonishes us to patience.

  3. I wanted to share a couple dreams that my daughters had in the last year or two. They seem to have prophetic meaning about what’s coming on our nation and what we may personally see. For some reason I felt inspired to transcribe them today:

    Sienna’s Dream in 2016 (age 6):
The location looked like Seattle and we were in a boat in the water. There was a beautiful rainbow. Then it turned to dark colors like black and gray. Boats with evil attackers started coming out of the rainbow and men swarmed the hills. At first they looked far away, then when you turned your head and looked back, they were close. The men were all black, everything was black, even their skin. They even had black masks and black eyes. You could see through the windows on their boats and everything inside was black.

A plane meant to crash into a house. The men in the airplane jumped out with parachutes, and then the plane crashed into the house. People were inside the house but they ran out.

There was gunfire. A deer fell down dead. There were lions and other animals that didn’t belong there. The predators began to protect the prey.

Most of the dark men died but none of the Christians died.

We heard a voice that tried to convince us that God is bad and to worship Satan. Then God was saying don’t listen to Satan.

There was the last gunshot and final scream and the last boat left. The attackers went away. The attackers said, “You are the last state,” as in the last place they attacked. Sienna thinks they were talking about Idaho.

Savannah’s Dream in 2016 or so (age 9):
I was with my father and sister. We were shopping in a market. My father had a cart over-stuffed with food and goods.

All of a sudden, the sky seemed to turn black as an army approached. Their footsteps were like thunder. The army seemed to stretch out on and on, and they came continuously. As they approached more closely, they started shooting at everyone with guns. It was chaos. People were screaming and everyone was running.

I couldn’t find my father and my sister, but I began to ride home on my bike. I turned into an alley, when some men in black pulled me away.

Suddenly aliens appeared out of nowhere. It was a couple aliens in a flying saucer. They started walking toward me.

    I woke up.

    1. Thanks for sharing those with us Mike. Those reminded me of many dreams shared by others.

I know Bette & Linda have both shared things about the aliens being demonic fallen angels with unknown technology. Aliens/Fallen angels have been discussed by Steve Quayle, Timothy Alberino and others on SkywatchTv, Gensix, Youtube and blogtalk radio.

I personally have had a dream relative to a shopping mall with terrorists.

I think Linda has had similar dreams/visions relative to shopping malls and terrorists.

      1. have you also noticed that the renovated strip shopping centers and also new ones have high towers on them; these are guard towers and some say that the strip shopping centers will also be camps to keep people in while they guard us with machine guns or whatever other high tech type of killing machines they use now.
i believe that is what they are for too.

interesting dreams. Many have had similar dreams. it is going to get really bad in this nation. 😦 If only the nation had repented as a whole it could have been a whole different outcome.

      1. When I was moved, I felt led to sign a 3 year lease. That is a much longer term than I’ve ever agreed to. That was done in faith too, as I truly did not want to move to Arkansas. I am very blessed here and know this was done for his purpose.

        1. i believe that is because you will stay in that one place for that long at least. At the time I was led to a month to month it was because it to only be for a little over a year and then he moved me again. Now I am in a place that I will stay much longer but have no lease, no contracts, no mortgage. 🙂 Good thing too because the devil stole everything from me! Praise God!

  4. Those were interesting dreams Mike. Nathan Leal singled out Seattle also as a city being targeted, even by nuclear bombs.

The part of predator protecting the prey piqued my interest though. In that we might see that even the animals see an threat to their habitat or the unnaturalness of the attackers.

I have never had any dreams of mention myself so im a sort of untouched ground in that area.

Some consider me a constant dreamer though here in my hometown 😃

  5. I’ve heard reference to “5 Fold Ministry” several times. These are gifts given by the Holy Spirit and referenced in Ephesians 4:11-12

11 And He gave some to be apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,
12 for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, and for the edifying of the body of Christ,
    **********************************************************
Here’s some definitions/examples found (some referenced from Wikipedia)

Apostle = (12 plus 1 replacement) Disciples linked directly to Jesus in New Testament; can also mean someone that spreads the Gospel (a messenger).

Prophet = One who has been given a gift from the Holy Spirit, speaks the truth from God and often gives messages of things to come. Sometimes they are referred to as “seers”. Prophecy is the foretelling or prediction of what is to come. Something that is declared by a prophet, especially a divinely inspired prediction, instruction, or exhortation. … a divinely inspired utterance or revelation. An exhortation is when someone gives and urgency of something that must be done.

Evangelist = One who seeks to bring others the truth in God’s Word for the purpose of conversion to accepting Jesus as their Lord and savior.

Pastor = some say the following falls into this group: church leader, chaplain, preacher, reverend. A Pastor is also sometimes referred to as a shepherd. A Chaplain can be someone who is not affiliated with a Church, but goes out to offer an ear to listen, prayer and share scripture; they tend to be known for connections in Hospitals, Military, Hospice Care, or other communities.

Teacher = someone who explains the meaning of Bible text.

Reminder of what has been promised in the last days:
    Acts 2:17-21

17 And it will be in the last days, says God,
    that I will pour out My Spirit on all humanity;
then your sons and your daughters will prophesy,
your young men will see visions,
and your old men will dream dreams.
18 I will even pour out My Spirit
on My male and female slaves in those days,
    and they will prophesy.
19 I will display wonders in the heaven above
and signs on the earth below:
blood and fire and a cloud of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
before the great and remarkable Day of the Lord comes.
    21 Then everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  6. Okay my friends I need your help!

    James,
Your post feels like yet another sign (one of many) of what I’ve been feeling I’m being convicted to do in an already dysfunctional relationship, one that involves family.
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit as stated in scripture is the unforgivable sin. So what exactly constitutes blasphemy? I wanted to know…so I went digging deeper. I feel I now know why Jesus said what he said in Matthew 12:31. One study explains it this way…(for me this was more clear). But is it correct??? It says that Jesus was talking to the Pharisees because they said His power was from demons, yes, I get that. This study also explains…blasphemy comes in other forms. One such form it was stated comes for not obeying the Holy Spirit. That when we have discernment about something and are convicted by the Holy Spirit to act on the conviction as led but do not obey, that too is blasphemy, especially when we disobey over and over again. It says the Holy Spirit’s voice will stop. Does anyone feel they can confirm this study and offer their wisdom?

I feel I was led to dig deeper and feel it’s another sign (another confirmation) from the Holy Spirit that I need to do this thing I feel I’m being asked to do…a very, very hard thing that will possibly have an exploding effect within my family. There are many who see this problem and all are in fear of the consequences. I’m not fearful of obeying. But I will admit I’m feeling worried of losing my family. I’m standing alone in the flesh…but I know the Lord is with me.

As of this writing, I feel that it’s been made clear that I am to intervene but am waiting for direction on how to proceed.

If anyone would like to talk with me via email or phone please contact James, he can share my email.

I need your prayers…please pray with me about this!
    Thank You!!!
    Blessings,
    Vicki

    1. Vicki, I understand your question about someone given something to do from the Holy Spirit and then they choose to ignore it. I personally believe this to be sin and some refer to this as grieving the Holy Spirit. If we choose to ignore what the Holy Spirit is telling us to do and we don’t repent, we will have to give an account of this during final judgment. All sin can be washed clean except for blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

I am not speaking on authority here, just sharing my opinion. Sometimes we are going to be asked to do something in faith, even when we don’t want to do it. If we choose to ignore that, I believe any gifts we have been given will be taken away unless we repent.

      Here’s a few examples:
      * The Holy Spirit tells you that you need to move, when and where. You do this in faith, even though it may mean going somewhere you don’t want to go and possibly being asked to cut ties with some people.

      * The Holy Spirit may tell someone to get divorced, because they are living in Sin. The Lord does not like divorce, but he certainly does not like it when we go against his word that outlines what Adultery is and has specifics for Marriage and what qualifies as a valid reason for divorce. Someone may ignore this and choose to stay where they are. The danger here is that they may not perceive themselves as living in sin and never repent from it.

      * The Holy Spirit may tell someone to cut ties with friends, neighbors or even family members. If we continue to ignore this, it’s possible we may be interfering with the Lord’s will which includes us to be removed from a situation. Cutting ties is not easy and very hard when it comes to family members. I know this myself, as I had to do this with my own parents.

Whatever the situation is, it’s always a good idea to ask for confirmation. Confirmation can come from Scripture, other people, dreams or whatever form the Lord uses to help us. Sometimes confirmation comes from unexpected sources.

      1. What James says here about grieving the Holy Spirit makes sense to me. Lord knows I have grieved the Spirit my share of times but I try to repent and move forward again.

I’m going to be honest and say I don’t understand this verse about blaspheming the Holy Spirit. I am unable to see how it makes sense with the rest of Scripture or at least my understanding of it. Unless it somehow means a permanent rejection or denial of God’s redemptive work on earth.

      2. i agree James and i do know from Scripture if we DO NOT warn family, friends or whomever we happened to get to know if they are in sin then their blood will be on our hands. If we warn and they didn’t get out of it then their blood is on their heads. You are then clear. So best to obey the Holy Spirit. I warned my whole family and friends and they hated me; I lost them but after a few years they are back talking to me. They are still in their sins though but I did my part. Now I handed them over to God for I warned my family many, many times. If we don’t warn and they go to hell then God holds us accountable for sending them there; a very serious issue indeed. Now if God is working on them & and tells you to wait while he chastens and then later tell them , do as He instructs. OBEDIENCE is a necessity; not a suggestion. I was never told to wait from telling someone but I was always led to warn!

    2. Hello Vicki a difficult question you put and i try to get you an directive or scripturally Based answer Based on text from the passage you had Matthew 12:31-32. In the interlinear Hebrew bible IT says whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit IT shall not be forgiven him in this age or the age to come! (G40+G53 in Strongs for Holy from interlinear Hebrew bible.

This implies speaking against something pure an undefiled, blameless IF you will. Everything that cannot be pointed out as filthy.

Spirit is G4151 and links from strongs to other words IT comes from in Hebrew in Ot. G5590 implies mind or disposition so in My estimate IT would be speaking against Gods will for mankind or creation essentially rebellion in word which is as the sin of witchcraft in the Ot.

Essentially G2036+G3004 to lay forth and extendedly boast and name names or bad things towards the subject. In this case Gods Holy Spirit and its blameless will or wants for humanity. A systematic barrage of ill will or words towards the Holy Spirit in this case. Not Christ because IT is stated that blasphemy towards him will be forgiven. The same words are used distincting speech against Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Essentially as you said IT is wrongly attributing, gainsaying and repeatedly assaulting Gods pure intentions and works through the Holy Spirit and going further back in Ot Ruach ha Kodesh implies breath or spirit of something so much higher(Holy) and otherworldly or sanctified that a human cannot achieve something like this in natural state.

Mathew 12:33 continues to give direction by implying a tree so corrupted brings nothing good out of IT anymore. It is rotten, barren from the core after loosing its life giving power or the Holy Spirit.

I dont know IF i went over My head on this one but once i Vicki read your post i felt compelled to pick My strongs and interlinear to try to help you Vicki.

Continuing that passage IT implies usage of slanderous words in perpetum or essentially whole the time because Christ says they will be judged for every idle word.

So plain scripture and Word definition seems to support what visible and invisible results and fruits of blasphemy is for an Christian to look and search for.

      Hope this helps Vicki

  7. Thank You James.

I have had experiences of blessings given by obeying the Holy Spirit by way of my Spirit led paintings and by an overwhelming feeling within of peace and joy (something I never had in my life from the time I was a little girl into my late 50’s. This was due to abuse. I have also been convicted to sell our home and directed where to move. And I have been led to distance myself from family members and friends. This is hard, yes. So this most present conviction is yet another Holy Spirit led assignment and the hardest of all I’ve ever had to do. As I said I feel your post was another sign, that is if it’s true, that that being disobeident is blasphemy to the Holy Spirit. I’m not suggesting that I’m thinking of not obeying. I’m only looking for confirmation that this is another sign for me. I hope I’m making sense.

Can you define more clearly the ways in which blasphemy is committed?

  8. Vicki,
Stig has given some good scriptural references and I can only state that I know for sure that Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is when you declare someone that is being led by the Holy Spirit is being led by Satan instead.

I am only able to offer examples of disobedience, which I personally do not consider Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit; but instead consider it Sin.

I agree with what Stig stated, that in scripture it tells us blasphemy against Jesus will be forgiven in repentance.

Anyone else, feel free to give your input. It’s a great topic of discussion.

    1. I found this and it is explains it in simple terms so all can understand:
The Unforgivable Sin. What is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?
What Is Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit? What is the Unforgivable Sin (also called Unpardonable Sin)? In this article, Al Maxey will be looking at what is called …
      [Search domain http://www.gracecentered.com] gracecentered.com/blasphemy_of_the_holy_spirit.htm
      EXCERPT FROM THIS SITE:
The word “blasphemy” (as in “blasphemy of the holy spirit”) is simply a transliteration of the Greek word blasphemia, which is derived from two different Greek words: (1) blapto = “to injure, harm; hinder,” and (2) pheme = “to speak; a saying; a rumor.” Thus, the concept of blasphemy is simply to engage in any kind of “injurious speaking.” When one says something with the intent to hurt, harm or hinder another; when one defames and slanders another; when one spreads destructive rumors and malicious whisperings, and speaks in such a way as to bring great, perhaps irreversible, injury to another — that is “blasphemy.” In addition to the noun form above, it also appears in Scripture as a verb (blasphemeo = “blaspheme”) and an adjective (blasphemos = “blasphemous”). Therefore, to answer yet another question posed above, when the Lord talks of “speaking against” or “speaking a word against,” He is really declaring essentially the very same thing, just in somewhat different language. Both are depicting one whose intent is to injure others with what is declared against them. Such intent is blasphemous, by definition of the Greek term.

  9. Anna, sometimes the Lord tells us to wait before we get involved in someone living in sin. The words may be rejected if we get ahead of his will. We need to clearly hear from the Holy Spirit before we jump in, as we can actually cause damage to occur if we do not.

For me, I had a clear warning for someone I know. The Lord told me to keep silent on this and keep this person in prayer. If I disobey that and go ahead and warn, I will be in Sin. I know the Lord will give me direction on when to speak up, and I will have no problem doing that.

    1. I AGREE and stated that in my answer James. Always do what the Lord says. I just personally was never told to do so that i can remember. I might have been overzealous then to help them because at the time i had to warn, i was still new to the walk. i know a lot more now than I did back then 🙂

  10. Sharing a true experience on waiting on the Lord.
I make my own non-toxic weed killer containing 1 gallon of white vinegar and 1 cup of salt. It has to be heated up to dissolve the salt, then cooled before using.

I asked the Lord yesterday if I could go ahead and spray — I thought I heard a clear response of “No, Wait”. Little did I know that a sunny day would turn into rain here and it would have diluted what I put down for weed control.

I asked the Lord today and thought I was given a clear “Yes”.

For me, it’s perfectly o.k. to ask for guidance in even little things in our lives.

Because that way you can control and delete information with one key stroke. Google scanning and putting online ancient books to make people used to easy access and not obtaining physical copies.

I buy My books as chance allows as paper or hardbacks, they work always without electricity anywhere.

But Anna is right to be cautious.

My Dad talked to us as little children about the importance of knowing the word of God, explaining that in end times we may not have them to refer too.

In any event…I’m glad to know we have them for now. I’m also not ever going to register my Bible if it comes to that.
