Provisions, Faith and Our Authority In Jesus Name

There are some good lessons to learn in Matthew 14.  One is to trust the Lord for provisions, when we have little or none left to offer others.   Another is trust in the Lord when we see something that may bring fear, we know we have been given authority over all forms of evil; that authority is given in the name of Jesus.

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the report about Jesus.  “This is John the Baptist!” he told his servants. “He has been raised from the dead, and that’s why supernatural powers are at work in him.”  For Herod had arrested John, chained him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,  since John had been telling him, “It’s not lawful for you to have her!”  Though he wanted to kill him, he feared the crowd, since they regarded him as a prophet.

But when Herod’s birthday celebration came, Herodias’s daughter danced before them and pleased Herod.  So he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. And prompted by her mother, she answered, “Give me John the Baptist’s head here on a platter!”  Although the king regretted it, he commanded that it be granted because of his oaths and his guests.  So he sent orders and had John beheaded in the prison.  His head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, who carried it to her mother.  Then his disciples came, removed the corpse, buried it, and went and reported to Jesus.

When Jesus heard about it, He withdrew from there by boat to a remote place to be alone. When the crowds heard this, they followed Him on foot from the towns.  As He stepped ashore, He saw a huge crowd, felt compassion for them, and healed their sick.

When evening came, the disciples approached Him and said, “This place is a wilderness, and it is already late. Send the crowds away so they can go into the villages and buy food for themselves.”

“They don’t need to go away,” Jesus told them. “You give them something to eat.”  “But we only have five loaves and two fish here,” they said to Him.  “Bring them here to Me,” He said.  Then He commanded the crowds to sit down on the grass. He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed them. He broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.  Everyone ate and was filled. Then they picked up 12 baskets full of leftover pieces!  Now those who ate were about 5,000 men, besides women and children.

Walking on the Water
Immediately He made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds.  After dismissing the crowds, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone.  But the boat was already over a mile from land, battered by the waves, because the wind was against them.  Around three in the morning, He came toward them walking on the sea.  When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost!” they said, and cried out in fear.

Immediately Jesus spoke to them. “Have courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”   “Lord, if it’s You,” Peter answered Him, “command me to come to You on the water.”  “Come!” He said.  And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus.  But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid. And beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus reached out His hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”  When they got into the boat, the wind ceased.  Then those in the boat worshiped Him and said, “Truly You are the Son of God!”

Miraculous Healings
Once they crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret.  When the men of that place recognized Him, they alerted the whole vicinity and brought to Him all who were sick. They were begging Him that they might only touch the tassel on His robe. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.

Luke 10:17-20  The Seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your name.”  He said to them, “I watched Satan fall from heaven like a lightning flash.  Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will ever harm you.  However, don’t rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and by His vast strength.  Put on the full armor of God so that you can stand against the tactics of the Devil.  For our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.  This is why you must take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.  Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest,  and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace.  In every situation take the shield of faith,
and with it you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit,
which is God’s word.  Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.  Pray also for me, that the message may be given to me when I open my mouth to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel.  For this I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I might be bold enough in Him to speak as I should.

  1. First thing that comes to mind reading these examples from the bible is this. Jesus walking on water they thought him a ghost. The lady touching him getting healed.

    This is holy radiance into the surrounding! Total control and mastery of creation. Just the details in these examples and St Pauls clothes healing sick, the same principle!

    Think yourself and how you affect your surrounding. Do you separate from the crowd in some way?

    Not talking of healing now but by acts or deeds or speech. This is the same princip in action. If you are saved by the Word the Word will shine through some way!

    Dont doubt it but beware the devils counterfeit. His version destroys, the Lords salvation heals and makes the individual whole again.

    1. Here’s a verse in scripture relative to Paul’s clothing mentioned by Stig.

      Acts 19:11-12
      11 God was performing extraordinary miracles by Paul’s hands, 12 so that even facecloths or work aprons that had touched his skin were brought to the sick, and the diseases left them, and the evil spirits came out of them.

      Another good example of faith. It’s unfortunate that people have twisted this part of scripture into believing that they can now pray, kiss or touch “Relics” or shrines from those of long ago. Instead they should be going directly to the Father through Jesus our Lord and savior.

  4. Very good post and uplifting!
    Jesus compassion! Jesus healed ALL the people out of His compassion. He did not pick and choose or tell them all to repent first. He did not say one was worthy and another was not. He healed them all. He cast out all the demons. His love shows for all and He died for all.
    So many think it has to do with faith in the wrong sense. Or may get under condemnation for not having enough faith when things such as illness or disease hit. More so it has to do with getting rid of all the false doctrine taught by the money mongers to get people to rely on and pay their ministry. We all have faith the size of a mustard seed. The quality of faith is (soul prospering/the Word/renewing the mind to the mind of Christ) is much more than the “size” of faith. Between the ears is the time spent renewing the mind to what Jesus said and not what man has taught in religious organizations………..
    These who have never sat in a church or under a TV ministry for too many years grasp this so quickly. As in 3rd world countries. They hear, they believe, they receive, the go forth.

    1. Good thoughts shared Sonshine. Here’s a concept that I’ve learned by others: Condemnation is brought on by Satan and his minion; while conviction comes from the Holy Spirit 🙂 Conviction comes to us for the purpose of repentance, correction and mold our character out of love.

  5. Amen James! Amazes me how the enemy can sneak into conviction to turn it into condemnation if I’m not really on top of it. It can even “appear” as the fear of the Lord, when in fact it’s an attack of the enemy. In the conviction (just my thoughts and thinking aloud) there is repentance and the power of the Holy Spirit to break through, the appropriate fear of the Lord. When it turns into condemnation (enemy playground) we are left with the wrong fear and powerless.
    Talking to self about an issue still trying to break free of. Turning on and up the worship today!

    1. So true Sonshine…

      I have since my heart issues been dealing with attacks thinking I somehow did something to deserve my illness and all the complications that have come along with it. I’m just now feeling like I’ve had a breakthrough and have in a matter of days begun to feel much, much better. The continuous pain since last Oct. is no longer continuous. It’s almost non-existent and I finally feel stronger! It’s been a long and painful six months but now I feel I’m going to be healed. Somethings different, something has shifted. I can feel it!!! God is faithful, He is love, He is our Savour! Thank You Jesus, Praise Your Holy Name!!!
      Through it all I knew the enemy was working hard to discourage me, and some days He got to me…it got down right ugly a few times. Pain is not an easy thing to live with, I was miserable and so some days I made others miserable also. I repented, I prayed and I believed…I had to concentrate on God, and on prayer and on His love and on the Holy Spirit to lead me…it was hard to pray at times, it was hard to stay focused. Some days I failed!!! But if I wanted to get well I had to break through. I never doubted that I would be healed but I was discouraged that it took so long and I stopped asking why…

      And there you have it…always, always God’s will, God’s timing, Always!

      I have much work to do…That’s my lesson!

      3. Vicki I just saw your post. How awesome!!!! I am very familiar with chronic pain, yet, as you the Lord has been healing and leading me through the Truth of the scripture. God is no respecter of persons. He is awesome!!!!

        For myself it’s been a journey of continual kicking out all the garbage I’ve heard. I spent too many years listening to the “faith healers” and it’s been a journey, quite a journey kicking the garbage out. Yes, there’s more ministry needed in a personal area but the greatest issue has been the false teachings! All the healing evangelists I’ve heard (we tend to listen more when we have health issues) with the exception of one Ive been digging into since last October say it’s “our lack of faith.” While it’s good to have faith and increase in faith in God, we already have faith. The application of it is so simple when it comes to the simplicity of what Jesus really said, to whom and in context.

        Yes, Jesus said spoke to His disciples over their lack of faith in areas and commended others for great faith. BUT, when He healed and when disciples healed, the faith was on them. They never stopped healing anyone because they had a lack of faith. They had the faith for them and it was as simple as believing. He/they, didn’t just leave them sick or in bondage and say, “well, you don’t have enough faith yet……..”

        This has been such a huge downfall that has lead many to their demise. Waiting on faith to build, twisted words, keeping people reliant on a ministry for $…….UHG!!!!

        I’m still learning and kicking things out, putting the new in lol. You’re in good company. I have much work to do also. God is faithful! He is so rich in mercy.

  8. Soon, it will no longer be rumors of war……….God is the only One holding back everything from breaking loose right now…….all it would take at this point is one person in control to lose it. I am amazed at His mercy, love and grace…………… and the extra time we’ve had given the evil and rebellion all around.

    HARDSHIP CANNOT SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF CHRIST
    Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall…hardship…? Romans 8:35b

    The question asked is a personal one. Not “what” can separate us but “who”? The inference is our enemy, Satan, who tries every tactic he can garner to make us think we can be separated from Christ’s love. Today we look at his tactic of “hardship.”

    Sixteen-year-old Lakech had always known a stable home in her small Ethiopian village of Moche. Her childhood as one of eight children was not carefree. But it was uncomplicated. Her father, a godly man, worked hard to provide the needs of his large family. They did not have an abundance; but they survived. While Lakech was growing up, her father and mother came to Christ. They laboured hard and devoted themselves to bringing up their eight children in a God-fearing way. But two years ago, her father was framed by some enemies and charged with stealing trees.

    The legal battle started with a hearing a few days later, dragging on for a year when the court found Lakech’s father guilty and sentenced him to a year’s imprisonment. He found himself sharing a cell with about fifty criminals, and his family was left in turmoil.

    At home, mother was not coping well. Neighbors were mocking the children, claiming their father would be jailed for seven more years. “I started noticing that it was hard for my mother to put food on the table,” explained Lakech. “I could not watch my mother battle on her own. I wanted to finish school, but it was impossible for me to just carry on,” admitted the timid young teenager. “My mother needed help.”

    Despite her age and innate shyness, Lakech left school and found a full-time job as a house servant some distance from her home town. For long periods of time, Lakech stayed away from home working, sending all her earnings home to her mother. Following her example, Lakech’s second oldest brother, also in his teens, quit school and took over the farming on their small land.

    Then the local church began to help support the family, and Open Doors was alerted to the difficult struggle to just feed the family. The ministry was able to come alongside the entire family, helping supply their food, and then paying school fees so Lakech could return home and resume her studies with her brother.

    Soon afterwards, to the family’s great joy, father was pardoned because of good behavior and released after serving nearly half of his sentence. He was overjoyed and declared, “I was saying to myself, by the time I finish serving the sentence, I will find my family scattered and needy. But it was different. They lacked nothing and everything was covered.

    “I was also thinking no one will be with us,” Lakech’s mother shared. “But we now are in joy. I am happy to be relieved from my worries and above all to have my husband beside me. The Lord has blessed me with these two successes; both my daughter and husband have come home.”

    RESPONSE: I will live this day aware that hardships can never separate me from Christ’s love.

    PRAYER: Lord we rejoice in Your goodness and in Your provision for every real need.

  10. Just a reminder — I will probably be unavailable starting this Friday (4/14/17) thru sometime on Monday (4/17/17).     Thats nightmare moving weather in the shade of mushroom clouds…yup back to work now my uimagination is warming up.

  16. Ok, I feel totally ignorant. 1 John 5, 7&8:
    1Jn 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
    1Jn 5:8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

    This has been an area I have battled over in understanding. vs 7 in heaven, vs 8 in earth……….

    Can it be as simple as the baptism of water, and covered by The Blood. I also went to blood of the innocent cries out from the ground…..And the Blood and water from Jesus as He was crucified…..I know those who refer to the water as the latter rain etc.

    I am lost on this and Strongs etc are not helping. Anyone with any understanding of this?

Also woman at the well….John 4 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, [e]Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Every one that drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.

  19. The best example comes from the Ot where the rock was split for water to the people. Moses did in wrath strike twice and did not see the promised land except by glimpse.

    Jesus was crucified by the blind wrath of the people who were blinded by millennia of religious dogma. So maybe Moses laid out the christian walk as an example already in the Ot. Wrath produces strife that ends up in realisation of the need for atonement.

    But atonement after wrath only comes with strife.

    Living water only comes from one source Christ and if you read the passage of the stonesplitting carefully Christ can be seen there in the Kjv.

  20. Moses was commanded to speak to the ROCK Numbers 20:8 an early pointer to speaking to the Lord directly after Christs sacrifice to provide the living water sonshines women at the well passage from the bible tells about.

    He struck it twice! In Exodus 17 the LORD stands before them where the stone is, Before the people! Or before thee maybe only Moses saw him. But its there he was to speak to the rock ie pray and living water would come hence to them!

    Can it be easier…….

    1. Excellent Stig!!! Thank you. It all fell together after your reference.

      I had an odd night but a good one. Started in Romans listening to Bible audio on my phone. Ended at Revelation. All night I was woke up by two things in the Word: The comparison of ungrateful/unthankful/unholy vs the joy of the Lord being our strength. Strong word it was to keep waking me through each reference for comparison. Still pondering away on this and thankful for the way the Lord highlights His Word! I believe He is showing for what lies ahead and if unable to be thankful in all things now…………..ahead will be a challenge to say the least.

      The other scripture in 1 John jumped out after I backed up everything to find the reference to the water, blood and Spirit.

  21. Wow! I almost had an unplanned (6 hour round-trip) drive to/from Arkansas today. I was talking to a neighbor here up the street and they told me to contact the water company there to make sure they would be open tomorrow.

    I discovered that the Water company is closed this Friday due to the Holiday weekend. After contacting the Property manager, she got the owner to call and have them turn the water on for me this weekend. Now I don’t have to visit the water company until Monday!

    All still as planned for tomorrow sign of papers then move on Saturday.

    I had asked for confirmation to go earlier before this happened, but felt I was to leave everything alone. This unplanned trip would have had me home very late tonight, and driving at night is difficult for me.

    The Lord is good all the time.
