Do Not Be Conformed To The Desires Of Your Former Ignorance

1 Peter 1:1-25

1peter1_1_3

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ: To the temporary residents dispersed in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, chosen

2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father and set apart by the Spirit for obedience and for sprinkling with the blood of Jesus Christ.May grace and peace be multiplied to you.

3 Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. According to His great mercy, He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

1peter1_4

4 and into an inheritance that is imperishable, uncorrupted, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.

1peter1_5

5 You are being protected by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

6 You rejoice in this, though now for a short time you have had to struggle in various trials

faith_more_precious_than_gold

7 so that the genuineness of your faith—more valuable than gold, which perishes though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

8 You love Him, though you have not seen Him. And though not seeing Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy,

9 because you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1peter1_10_25

10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that would come to you searched and carefully investigated.

11 They inquired into what time or what circumstances the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when He testified in advance to the messianic sufferings and the glories that would follow.

12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Angels desire to look into these things.

1peter1_13

13 Therefore, with your minds ready for action, be serious and set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

no_more_ignorance

14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires of your former ignorance.

15 But as the One who called you is holy, you also are to be holy in all your conduct;

1peter1_16

16 for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy.

17 And if you address as Father the One who judges impartially based on each one’s work, you are to conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your temporary residence.

18 For you know that you were redeemed from your empty way of life inherited from the fathers, not with perishable things like silver or gold,

19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish.

20 He was chosen before the foundation of the world but was revealed at the end of the times for you

jesus_raised_from_the_dead

21 who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

pure_in_heart

22 By obedience to the truth, having purified yourselves for sincere love of the brothers, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,

Holy_Bible

23 since you have been born again—not of perishable seed but of imperishable—through the living and enduring word of God.

24 For All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like a flower of the grass.
The grass withers, and the flower falls,

1peter1_25

25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.  And this is the word that was preached as the gospel to you.

And in addition the bunkers wont help Book of revelation says that! Only Jesus will help, bunkers are only temporary respite. Jesus is eternal!

    1. Here’s what it says in Matthew about those wanting to save their life. Revelations talks about those hiding after the 6th seal was opened.

      Matthew 16:25
25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will find it.

      Revelation 6:12-17
      The Sixth Seal
12 Then I saw Him open the sixth seal. A violent earthquake occurred; the sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair; the entire moon became like blood; 13 the stars of heaven fell to the earth as a fig tree drops its unripe figs when shaken by a high wind; 14 the sky separated like a scroll being rolled up; and every mountain and island was moved from its place.
15 Then the kings of the earth, the nobles, the military commanders, the rich, the powerful, and every slave and free person hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 And they said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of the One seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb, 17 because the great day of Their wrath has come! And who is able to stand?”

  3. Times are so serious. I’ve noticed several dropping off and not posting as norm on social media sites. This is encouraging, there are those listening and the normal all day long football posts are not one after another. The political postings are still there yet even they are not as numerous. A friend sent me a warning of several military check points in Texas. Just stuff all over and feels like in a hold time to pray and wait in His rest.
Praying for all on here also. Hugs to everyone and will meeting you soon.

      1. Too funny Stig 🙂 The part about telling people the truth at work — very common these days. So many people don’t want to hear the truth, aren’t prepared in any way and most prefer to walk in the darkness.

    GOD’S AMAZING GRACE
And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character. Ruth 3:11

When I think of God’s grace in an individual’s life, the story of Ruth comes to mind. And not just because Ruth was the name of my own dear mother. Ruth from the Bible was a widowed but faithful daughter-in-law whom God in His grace blessed with a new country, new husband and family. She is one of the few women (and a Gentile at that) mentioned in Matthew’s genealogy of Jesus.

God’s grace is also the key principle in so many people’s faith stories. My co-teacher in Standing Strong Through the Storm (SSTS) seminars, Jim Cunningham, was teaching in Sri Lanka and learned first-hand of this amazing example. Names used are not their real names.

Arjuna, a young married man with a family, was part of a team of Christians running an orphanage in a rural village of Sri Lanka. One of the girls from the orphanage was sexually abused by a boy in the village. The police investigated and she identified the boy. The police then arrested the boy.

But the villagers rose-up-in-arms saying Arjuna sexually assaulted the girl and she just blamed the village boy to protect Arjuna. The villagers found and forced another girl to say she too was assaulted by Arjuna.

Arjuna was ultimately sentenced to fifteen years in jail where he subsequently led a number of other prisoners to Christ. One of those men who accepted Christ was Menika. After his release from prison, Menika went to seminary and became a church-planting pastor in a small rural town of Sri Lanka.

Arjuna continued in his prison ministry. He led another criminal to Christ who had committed a capital offence and was on death row. His name was Chandra. Before he was put to death, Chandra said to Arjuna, “I’d like to give the deed to my house to someone in ministry…” It just so happened Chandra’s house was in the same small rural town where Menika was beginning to plant a church.

o Chandra gave his house to the “church-planting” former prisoner, Menika, redeemed by God’s grace through Arjuna’s being falsely accused and sent to prison. Amazing grace!

After six and a half years Arjuna was released from prison but because of the false charge against him was unable to work with children. He now has an ongoing ministry in the prisons of Sri Lanka.

Jim said to me, “This is not how most of us would have written the script, but—as in the life of Ruth—I rejoice in God’s amazing grace and provision for all involved!”

RESPONSE: I will praise God today for His amazing grace and provision in these lives mentioned and in my own life.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord that Your amazing grace is so real, so available and so free.

    1. Jason’s video (as always) boggles the mind…so much here to be concerned about, not fearful, but concerned.

This segment really stands out. Quote…”Internet technologies will double every 12 hours” AND “The “scientific revolution” which is the “revolution of knowledge”. End quote.

This is startling!!! Who do we think is leading this “knowledge” revolution? I think that’s obvious to you and me, however, the masses think it’s great. In cases like this maybe we have substituted knowledge for wisdom. Or is it the other way around? On the other hand maybe it’s that neither is present. We need both… but only God’s knowledge and wisdom is required.. not mans.

Communication is key to those who are teaching whatever their agenda may be. The internet is the “information highway”…so they say. My “information highway” is the word of God where I’m taught what Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life”.

2 Peter 2:1 – But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.

Proverbs 1:7 – The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of knowledge: [but] fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Psalms 119:66 – Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.

Father I pray that we continue to learn about Your good judgment and knowledge and I thank You for YOUR wisdom as You teach us to discern the difference between Your knowledge and the knowledge of the flesh…In Jesus precious Name I pray, Amen

Let us not be conformed by the trickery.
      Thank you James!

      Peace and Blessings,
      Vicki

  5. Daily Devotional -10/5/16 (A Child’s Perspective)

    HOPE FOR THE MIDDLE EAST
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:1-3

In the summer of 2011, Musalaha held an Israeli-Palestinian summer camp attended by seventy Palestinian and Israeli children from Christian families. A visitor shares poignant observations:

For me, after six months in the Land, this camp gave me real hope like nothing else I have experienced. There was hope in the Bible studies, in the competitions, in the craziness and laughter, and in the worship. There was hope as the children were creative with their crafts and reckless in their play. There was hope as they were just being girls and boys – having fun, making friends, getting a break from the pressures of their everyday environment…

When they arrived, many of the children found friends they had met at last year’s camp. A group of two Palestinian and three Israeli girls negotiated to be in the same room. Upon receiving permission, they pulled five bunks together to make one huge bed where they could sleep together…

At the camp I realized that I wasn’t noticing who was Israeli and who was Palestinian. I saw my brothers and sisters from both sides of the conflict demonstrate a love of Christ and each other above their love of sticking with their side. Leaders cared for kids, loving and instructing them regardless of where they came from. We were all there as believers in Jesus, and as should more often be the case, during camp no other identity really mattered.

One day after craft time, a Palestinian boy from the West Bank proudly pulled me aside to show me his pencil case. On it, he had painted an Israeli flag. I am not sure how his parents would feel about it, but it showed me how much more simple this situation is for the children. He loved his new friends and leaders and therefore had fond feelings about the place they are from…

As my coworker Tamara and I reflected on the camp, she said, “Innocence breaks down all this hatred that we have around us. You love the good things that you see in the other side. Like Jesus said, we should be little children.”

For them, the “enemy” will never be faceless, inhuman, or distant. For them, the situation will never be easy or black and white. That is good. With open eyes they can help bring change. They are the hope.

RESPONSE: Today I will look at the problems of our world through child-like eyes and see the challenges as Jesus sees them.

PRAYER: Thank You, Lord, there is HOPE for even the greatest challenges of our troubled world.
