God’s Wrath On Babylon

Jeremiah 50

Jeremiah50_1_16

Prophecies against Babylon
The word the Lord spoke about Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans, through Jeremiah the prophet:  2 Announce to the nations; proclaim and raise up a signal flag;
proclaim, and hide nothing. Say: Babylon is captured; Bel is put to shame; Marduk is devastated; her idols are put to shame; her false gods, devastated.
3 For a nation from the north will come against her; it will make her land desolate.
No one will be living in it— both man and beast will escape.
4 In those days and at that time— this is the Lord’s declaration—
the Israelites and Judeans will come together, weeping as they come,
and will seek the Lord their God.
5 They will ask about Zion, turning their faces to this road. They will come and join themselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant that will never be forgotten.
6 My people are lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray,
guiding them the wrong way in the mountains.  They have wandered from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place.
7 All who found them devoured them. Their adversaries said, “We’re not guilty;
instead, they have sinned against the Lord, their righteous grazing land,
the hope of their ancestors, the Lord.”
8 Escape from Babylon; depart from the Chaldeans’ land.
Be like the rams that lead the flock.
9 For I will soon stir up and bring against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country. They will line up in battle formation against her;
from there she will be captured.  Their arrows will be like those of a skilled warrior
who does not return empty-handed.
10 The Chaldeans will become plunder; all Babylon’s plunderers will be fully satisfied.
This is the Lord’s declaration.
11 Because you rejoice, because you sing in triumph— you who plundered My inheritance— because you frolic like a young cow treading grain and neigh like stallions,
12 your mother will be utterly humiliated; she who bore you will be put to shame.
Look! She will lag behind all the nations— a dry land, a wilderness, an Arabah.
13 Because of the Lord’s wrath, she will not be inhabited; she will become a desolation, every bit of her.  Everyone who passes through Babylon will be horrified
and scoff because of all her wounds.
14 Line up in battle formation around Babylon, all you archers!
Shoot at her! Do not spare an arrow, for she has sinned against the Lord.
15 Raise a war cry against her on every side! She has thrown up her hands in surrender;
her defense towers have fallen; her walls are demolished.  Since this is the Lord’s vengeance, take out your vengeance on her; as she has done, do the same to her.
16 Cut off the sower from Babylon as well as him who wields the sickle at harvest time.
Because of the oppressor’s sword, each will turn to his own people,
each will flee to his own land.

Lion_Chasing_Lamb
The Return of God’s People
17 Israel is a stray lamb, chased by lions. The first who devoured him was the king of Assyria; the last one who crushed his bones was Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
18 Therefore, this is what the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “I am about to punish the king of Babylon and his land just as I punished the king of Assyria.                19 I will return Israel to his grazing land, and he will feed on Carmel and Bashan;
he will be satisfied in the hill country of Ephraim and of Gilead.
20 In those days and at that time— this is the Lord’s declaration—
one will search for Israel’s guilt, but there will be none, and for Judah’s sins,
but they will not be found, for I will forgive those I leave as a remnant.

The Invasion of Babylon
21 “Go against the land of Merathaim, and against those living in Pekod.
Put them to the sword; completely destroy them—
this is the Lord’s declaration— do everything I have commanded you.
22 The sound of war is in the land— a great destruction.
23 How the hammer of the whole earth is cut down and smashed!
What a horror Babylon has become among the nations!
24 Babylon, I laid a trap for you, and you were caught,
but you did not even know it.  You were found and captured
because you fought against the Lord.
25 The Lord opened His armory and brought out His weapons of wrath,
because it is a task of the Lord God of Hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.
26 Come against her from the most distant places.  Open her granaries;
pile her up like mounds of grain and completely destroy her.  Leave her no survivors.
27 Put all her young bulls to the sword; let them go down to the slaughter.
Woe to them, because their day has come, the time of their punishment.

The Humiliation of Babylon
28 “There is a voice of fugitives and those who escape from the land of Babylon
announcing in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance for His temple.
29 Summon the archers to Babylon, all who string the bow;
camp all around her; let none escape.  Repay her according to her deeds;
just as she has done, do the same to her, for she has acted arrogantly against the Lord,
against the Holy One of Israel.
30 Therefore, her young men will fall in her public squares;
all the warriors will perish in that day.  This is the Lord’s declaration.
31 Look, I am against you, you arrogant one— this is the declaration of
the Lord God of Hosts— because your day has come, the time when I will punish you.
32 The arrogant will stumble and fall with no one to pick him up.
I will set fire to his cities, and it will consume everything around him.”

desolation_of_Babylon
The Desolation of Babylon
33 This is what the Lord of Hosts says: Israelites and Judeans alike have been oppressed.  All their captors hold them fast;  they refuse to release them.
34 Their Redeemer is strong; Yahweh of Hosts is His name.
He will fervently plead their case so that He might bring rest to the earth
but turmoil to those who live in Babylon.
35 A sword is over the Chaldeans — this is the Lord’s declaration—
against those who live in Babylon, against her officials, and against her sages.
36 A sword is against the diviners, and they will act foolishly.
A sword is against her heroic warriors, and they will be terrified.
37 A sword is against his horses and chariots and against all the foreigners among them, and they will be like women.   A sword is against her treasuries,
and they will be plundered.
38 A drought will come on her waters, and they will be dried up.
For it is a land of carved images, and they go mad because of terrifying things.
39 Therefore, desert creatures will live with hyenas, and ostriches will also live in her.
It will never again be inhabited or lived in through all generations.
40 Just as God demolished Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns—
this is the Lord’s declaration— so no one will live there;
no human being will even stay in it as a temporary resident.

The Conquest of Babylon
41 Look! A people comes from the north. A great nation and many kings will be stirred up from the remote regions of the earth.
42 They grasp bow and javelin.  They are cruel and show no mercy.
Their voice roars like the sea, and they ride on horses,
lined up like men in battle formation against you, Daughter Babylon.
43 The king of Babylon has heard reports about them, and his hands fall helpless.
Distress has seized him— pain, like a woman in labor.
44 “Look, it will be like a lion coming from the thickets of the Jordan to the watered grazing land. Indeed, I will chase Babylon away from her land in a flash. I will appoint whoever is chosen for her. For who is like Me? Who will summon Me? Who is the shepherd who can stand against Me?” 45 Therefore, hear the plans that the Lord has drawn up against Babylon and the strategies He has devised against the land of the Chaldeans: Certainly the flock’s little lambs will be dragged away; certainly the grazing land will be made desolate because of them. 46 At the sound of Babylon’s conquest the earth will quake; a cry will be heard among the nations.

Revelation14_8

Revelation 14:8

8 A second angel followed, saying: “It has fallen, Babylon the Great has fallen, who made all nations drink the wine of her sexual immorality, which brings wrath.”

Revelation16_19

Revelation 16:19

19 The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. Babylon the Great was remembered in God’s presence; He gave her the cup filled with the wine of His fierce anger.

Revelation 17:5

On her forehead a cryptic name was written:  BABYLON THE GREAT
THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE VILE THINGS OF THE EARTH.

Revelation18_main

Revelation 18:1-21

The Fall of Babylon the Great
After this I saw another angel with great authority coming down from heaven, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor. 2 He cried in a mighty voice: It has fallen,
Babylon the Great has fallen! She has become a dwelling for demons,
a haunt for every unclean spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird,
and a haunt for every unclean and despicable beast.
3 For all the nations have drunk the wine of her sexual immorality,
which brings wrath. The kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality with her,
and the merchants of the earth have grown wealthy from her excessive luxury.

come_out_of_her_My_People
4 Then I heard another voice from heaven: Come out of her, My people,
so that you will not share in her sins or receive any of her plagues.
5 For her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.
6 Pay her back the way she also paid, and double it according to her works.
In the cup in which she mixed, mix a double portion for her.
7 As much as she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, give her that much torment and grief, for she says in her heart, “I sit as a queen; I am not a widow,
and I will never see grief.”
8 For this reason her plagues will come in one day—
death and grief and famine.  She will be burned up with fire,
because the Lord God who judges her is mighty.

Revelation18_9

The World Mourns Babylon’s Fall
9 The kings of the earth who have committed sexual immorality and lived luxuriously with her will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke of her burning. 10 They will stand far off in fear of her torment, saying: Woe, woe, the great city,
Babylon, the mighty city! For in a single hour your judgment has come.
11 The merchants of the earth will also weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their merchandise any longer— 12 merchandise of gold, silver, precious stones, and pearls; fine fabrics of linen, purple, silk, and scarlet; all kinds of fragrant wood products; objects of ivory; objects of expensive wood, brass, iron, and marble; 13 cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, and frankincense; wine, olive oil, fine wheat flour, and grain; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and slaves and human lives.  14 The fruit you craved has left you. All your splendid and glamorous things are gone;
they will never find them again.
15 The merchants of these things, who became rich from her, will stand far off in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning, 16 saying: Woe, woe, the great city,
dressed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, adorned with gold, precious stones, and pearls,  17 for in a single hour such fabulous wealth was destroyed!
And every shipmaster, seafarer, the sailors, and all who do business by sea, stood far off 18 as they watched the smoke from her burning and kept crying out: “Who is like the great city?” 19 They threw dust on their heads and kept crying out, weeping, and mourning: Woe, woe, the great city, where all those who have ships on the sea
became rich from her wealth, for in a single hour she was destroyed.
20 Rejoice over her, heaven, and you saints, apostles, and prophets,
because God has executed your judgment on her!

Revelation18_21

The Finality of Babylon’s Fall
21 Then a mighty angel picked up a stone like a large millstone and threw it into the sea, saying: In this way, Babylon the great city will be thrown down violently
and never be found again.

  1. Once Dead — Aug 29, 2016 05:30 am | Glynda Lomax Linkous

“My children, in the end, things which were once dead shall live again. I do not wish for this to terrify you, but it has been foretold in My Word.

In the end there shall be only chaos, and death and destruction shall reign all around you. This has been the enemy’s intent all along, and his desire in getting you to sin, that you would destroy your own souls, and lead those around you into temptation. He is coming to destroy in the earth and there shall indeed be much destruction, but in the end, My Father shall prevent him from destroying all.

I tell you this that you may know it before it happens. Fear not. ”

    Isaiah 26:19-21

19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.

20 Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.

21 For, behold, the Lord cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

    Psalm 91:1-6

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

  2. This is an powerful post Jc!

There is justification to identify the Us with the Chaldeans, i wrote about it before. Back in the days of Venice the are which constituted Venice was populated by Chaldean slaves to Rome mostly. After Rome fell it became a might naval empire which thrived until the discovery of America.

Then was contrived a great operation of capital movement to Holland and England which were the great naval and colonial powers of the day and from there the Chaldean banking system was translated to America.

Ethnically America is not of Chaldean origin, but the secret societies and banking system in power atm is very much so and a great many of the ruling families in America can trace family lines to ancient babylon. Read Springmeiers bloodlines of the illuminati!

  4. Everyone — I want to make it clear that I am not attacking anyone when I say “We need to be led by the Holy Spirit and pray for Clarity, Discernment & Wisdom In All Things”. This applies to me as well. There is so much “mixture” out there now, any of us can fall for something that sounds good. I appreciate it when people bring things to my attention that are shared and may have some “issues”. We are all here to help each other as Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus.

  5. Here you go Stig-Ove — this is to help understand a bit more about the Finnish sauna. This according to Wikipedia:

The Finnish sauna is a substantial part of Finnish culture. There are five million inhabitants and over three million saunas in Finland – an average of one per household. For Finnish people the sauna is a place to relax with friends and family, and a place for physical and mental relaxation as well. Finns think of saunas not as a luxury, but as a necessity. Before the rise of public health care and nursery facilities, almost all Finnish mothers gave birth in saunas.

  6. Relationships Changing — Aug 30, 2016 05:30 am | Glynda Lomax Linkous

“My children, in this time of great change, close relationships will end suddenly and with no warning at all. Do not resist these changes, as I am behind them and I work them out for your good. Remember, I can see ahead of you and down the road. I know what you need, and I know who you need and who you do not, in your life.

The changes coming into your life will affect every area. I am starting to move through nations in ways you cannot imagine. Events are on the horizon your mind cannot comprehend. The consequences of what is coming will be far-reaching and shocking. Events are already planned (by men) that will change the world.

There are those in power who desire the ultimate power – power over every human in the world, and they will do all they can to gain it, no matter the cost to others. Much evil abides in your world today and more is coming still.

Fear not, for I am with you even now, and I love you with an everlasting love. I will walk with you through every moment of what is coming. ”

    Isaiah 41:10

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

  7. A Watchman on the Wall — Posted: 31 Aug 2016 12:03 AM PDT

“A stern warning for the masses. Your rejection of JEHOVAH God has not gone unnoticed. The Almighty has seen and will act according to His will. Retribution is demanded. You think I AM is like you? He who sits in the heavens laughs at the foolishness of man.

The death of the nations comes slowly. Man has many opportunities to change, to make a difference; each opportunity squandered. Man has traded his garments of praise for rags. Man once clothed in righteousness now covered by the stains of sin. Daily you sit in the marketplace silent. Your silence is deafening, at least it is to Me. You are called to be My witnesses. Where is your salt, where is your light?

Now time has come to an end for My wrath is being poured out upon this wicked and perverse generation. Your days are numbered; (Job14:5-7; Psalm 39:4). You have squandered the time and now time is closing in upon you. This is a hard word, but these are hard times and the times will only grow more difficult in weeks ahead

Children of the cross, examine yourself. Let no unclean thing rule your heart. Let not your eyes look upon evil. Breath deeply of My Holy Spirit. Be strengthened through prayer and fasting. What is coming will devastate many. Do not allow it to devastate you. Natural disasters, man-made disasters, false flags designed to deceive soon sweep across the nations. Nation will rise against nation – be alert, be aware, be prepared. My children know My voice. Listen closely and obey. Do not allow the bobbles of this world to trick you into believing their lies.

Satan plans great destruction for the unsuspecting among you. Hearts far from Me will quickly feel the hot heat of his anger as one attack then another comes upon you. Demonic forces have taken positions of strength within the government that will cause great harm to My people. I saw lightening fall from heaven as Lucifer fell (Isaiah 14:12; Luke 10:18) and now lightening will strike nations as his anger rages. (Thunder and lightning are spoken of as tokens of God’s wrath; 2 Samuel 22:15, Job 28:26, Job 37:4, Psalms 135:7 – They represent God’s glorious and awful majesty, Revelation 4:5, or some judgment of God on the world, Revelation 20:9). Knowing his time is short, he has planned great destruction for millions. You My people must resist the devil and he will depart from you. Do not faultier in the weeks ahead. Know that the coming evil was designed from old for such a time as this.

September brings the beginning of heartaches. My feast days will be used to destroy many. Prepare saints of the LORD. Prepare, but do not panic, for greater is He that is within you than he that is within the world.”

“But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron…” 1 Timothy 4:1-2
“In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” Jude 1:18
“Be on guard, so that your hearts will not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap; for it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of all the earth. But keep on the alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are about to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:34-36
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:6
“Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13

    MARTYRDOM
Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. Revelation 2:10

In Ambon, Indonesia, a Christian youth camp was held in early 1999 with the theme “Soldiers of the Cross!” The camp was attacked by an angry group of Muslim extremists and a 15-year-old boy named Roy Pontoh was singled out for carrying his Bible and interrogated.

When asked, “Who are you?” he replied, “I am a soldier of Jesus Christ.” The angry mob chopped at his left arm with a machete. The questioning continued, “Who are you?” And again Roy answered, “I am a soldier of Jesus Christ.” Then they chopped at his right arm.

When they tried to force him to say, “Allahu Akbar,” he replied, “As far as I know, Jesus Christ is the only Lord.” Now the seething angry crowd cut open his stomach and demanded again, “Who are you?” With his last breath, Roy gasped, “I am a soldier of Jesus Christ.” The mob cut off his head and threw his body in a ditch.

Martyrdom may be the end result of those who endure. In addition to Jesus, three martyrs are named in the New Testament—John the Baptist, Stephen and James. Some of the unnamed heroes of the faith mentioned in Hebrews 11:37 were also martyred. .

Martyrdom is described as a legitimate response to persecution. This is not easily understood in our day and in our culture that specializes in personal “rights” and the avoidance of suffering. But a special crown is awaiting those who lay down their lives for their faith.

The appropriate response to persecution that one chooses depends on that person’s intimate relationship with God the Holy Spirit and openness to His direction.

No doubt if you and I had talked to Roy Pontoh before his death, we may not have detected such bravery and loyalty to Jesus. Roy passed the hot water test with flying colors. He graduated to a special place with his Lord as a victorious overcomer.

Overcomers are like tea bags. You have to put them in hot water to know how strong they are!

RESPONSE: Today I will live in faith and assurance that even in the test and threat of death I can be a victorious overcomer.

PRAYER: Pray that all those who may face physical death today for the cause of Christ will walk in faith and realize they will never die.

  9. Walk In Wisdom — Aug 31, 2016 10:49 am | Glynda Lomax Linkous

“The serpent is among you now, children, and he is crafty in his plans against your lives. Be wise, and be prudent, that you do not get in his snares. He can appear as an angel of light, but there is no light in him. There is no truth in him, and no life. His desire towards you is evil only, and he longs to see you destroyed. He strives to wipe out the destiny I have planned for you.

Only the wisest among My children can escape his grasp, for he works harder now than ever, for he knows his time is short now.

Many of you already see the enemy’s hand of destruction working in your lives, in your relationships, in your finances, destroying your dreams.

Walk in wisdom and in love, My precious ones, that he not succeed in taking your crown from you. You were born to be the royal priesthood, but you must walk in My ways now more than ever.”

    Proverbs 1:5-7
5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

    Proverbs 13:13-15
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

    2 Corinthians 11:3, 14
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

    2 Corinthians 11:14
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

RECONCILIATION IN THE MIDST OF PAIN
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19

The first of September is a memorial day for the people of Beslan in North Ossetia as they remember the awful events of September first 2004. More than one thousand children and adults were taken hostage in School Number One and two days later more than three hundred and thirty of them were killed in the violence.

Memorial services are held and memories of the nightmare overwhelm everyone in town. Beslan’s cemetery is unique; it has the youngest average age in the world (7-12 years old). The sight of so many graves of children deeply affects any visitor. One said, “People who do not live in Beslan have often forgotten the tragedy already, but as soon as you enter the city, you cannot escape the atmosphere of grief and deep mourning that is still enveloping the city.”

When the tragedy occurred at School Number One, almost every family in Beslan was affected. A peculiarity in Ossetia is that nearly everybody is related to one another, so the catastrophe has affected many people in a personal way. Even those who were watching television during the event suffered diseases, heart attacks and strokes.

Pastor Taimuraz Totiev and his wife Ria had their five children at school; only the eldest daughter, Madina, survived the attack. Their four other children, Larissa, Luba, Albina and Boris, were buried on September 7, 2004.

The pastor’s brother, Sergey Totiev, also had children at the school. Sergey and his wife Bela buried two of their children on the same day: Dzerassa (15) and Anna (9). Their son Azamat lost his sight in one of his eyes and is having surgery to save his other eye.

Both men are pastors of the Beslan Baptist Church. At the children’s funeral Sergey spoke of forgiveness and advised people not to seek revenge, but to serve as peacemakers. His exact words were: “Yes, we have an irreplaceable loss, but we cannot take revenge. As Christians, the Bible teaches us that we must forgive. Vengeance is in God’s hands.” According to a Christian worker in the area, a demonic plan was broken when those words were spoken!

Since that time they have been doing everything they can think of to minister to families of the victims. Other churches and ministries have also taken up the enormous task of counseling and helping the survivors and the bereaved. Others decided to reach out to Chechen people (nationality of the neighboring terrorists) and are finding ways to minister God’s love to them.

RESPONSE: Today I commit to being a messenger of God’s reconciliation through Christ—even to those who may cause harm to me or my family.

PRAYER: Pray for the church to be an instrument of reconciliation and restoration in this volatile area of Central Asia.

Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful. Psalm 149:1b

Our Open Doors colleague, Ron Boyd-MacMillan, shares the following insight from his teaching, “Why I Need to Encounter the persecuted church.”

It’s so easy to get fed up with church. For years I got very little out of church. The sermons were boring. The music was embarrassing. The fellowship was non-existent. The whole experience of worshipping with other people felt stale and pointless…Going to church in my country was an endurance test. Until I visited a persecuted church!

There were fifty of us squeezed into an upstairs room. The singing was hushed. The neighbors were hostile to the fellowship. Then a preacher stood up. An old man, with a wiry frame and wisps of hair springing from a mole on his chin. No sooner had he spoken a sentence than he broke down in tears. He kept saying, “I never thought I would have the privilege of preaching again.” Then he would laugh, and then cry again, great wails and sobs. Soon everyone was weeping with him. Except me. This went on for about half an hour, and I began to get very fed up with it all. He kept speaking a line, and my translator kept saying, “It’s the same verse, it’s the same verse.” All this man did was repeat the same scripture phrase, burst into tears, laugh, and then speak the very same phrase again. I thought, “What kind of hopeless service is this.”

But afterwards I met the old man, and when I heard his story I repented of my attitude. He was a preacher, ordained in the late 1950’s in China. He pastored a church for only six months before it was closed down. He was jailed, spending twenty years in prison. After he got out, he was very ill for a long time, but finally, at age 77, had the strength to speak again. I had witnessed his first sermon in 31 years! No wonder he broke down. I tried to imagine what it must have been like, holding the Word of God inside for 31 years, not knowing whether you would ever again preach. Then suddenly being allowed to do so. How do you preach a sermon after a silence of 31 years? No wonder he was overcome.

He said, “I never thought I would get the privilege of speaking the Word to a gathered group of Christians with their Bibles open ever again. Through the long years of prison I thought that experience would never return. And when it came, as you saw, all I could do was choke out the verse that kept me going: Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful (Ps149:1b).

I returned home with a transformed attitude. I began to walk to church with my Bible, praising Him for the opportunity. I went to the church early, walking the aisles and praying, thanking God for the building and the freedom to hold our service. When the preacher spoke, I thanked God that he had no fear. When the Bible was read, I thanked God for the men who took grave risks in the past to print and distribute this word in my language. When we sang a hymn, I sang out loudly, thanking God that I did not have to whisper in hushed tones.

Truly, what a privilege is corporate worship. The persecuted church rescued me from bitterness, and taught me to count my blessings I had taken for granted.

RESPONSE: Today I will thank God for the privilege and freedom of corporate worship in my church.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord for the freedom and blessing of praising You in my faith community.

  13. It would have been good to know what verse that preacher was repeating because spoken loud the word of God has more meaning than we understand.

The hebrews say that by studying the torah you are upholding the world. They claim the world is created spoken loud by the Lord using the words of the torah.

There is some truth to that i believe.
